EuroSkills 2025 – “Best of Nation” Award for Andreas Charalambous, Graduate of the Bachelor in Culinary Arts Management at Intercollege

A true taste of success for Cyprus came from Andreas Charalambous, graduate of the Bachelor in Culinary Arts Management at Intercollege, who won the Medallion for Excellence in the Cooking competition at the European Skills Championship – EuroSkills 2025. This significant achievement highlights his creativity, skill, and passion for gastronomy. Once again, Cyprus proves that it possesses exceptional talent and a high level of competence that stands out across Europe!

Cyprus celebrated the Medallion for Excellence in Cooking, with Andreas Charalambous achieving the highest score among the Cypriot delegation, placing sixth out of 25 participants, and being named Best of Nation. This prestigious distinction rewards his talent, hard work, and dedication, while at the same time showcasing the high level of skills possessed by Cyprus’ young professionals.

The Cypriot delegation completed its participation in EuroSkills 2025, held in Herning, Denmark, with remarkable success. The team’s strong performance reaffirmed the commitment of the Ministry of Labour and Social Insurance to the enhancement of professional skills and the strengthening of vocational training for young people, ensuring they can effectively meet the constantly changing needs of the labour market.

The Minister of Labour and Social Insurance, Mr. Yiannis Panayiotou, warmly congratulated the young men and women of the Cypriot delegation for their successful participation and expressed his gratitude to all contributors, trainers, and the management of the Human Resource Development Authority (HRDA) for their contribution to this important achievement of the National Skills Team.

The distinctions earned by Cyprus at EuroSkills 2025 reflect the strong emphasis placed by the HRDA of the Ministry of Labour over the past two years on the preliminary selection process and on thorough preparation to fully harness the potential of the country’s participation in the European competition.

The positive results of Cyprus’ participation in this major European vocational skills competition clearly demonstrate the growing importance given to developing professional skills in order to create conditions for full employment. Participation in training programmes increased by +86%, while enrolment in green and digital skills programmes rose by an impressive +742%. Employment exceeded 80%, unemployment fell below 4.9%, and youth unemployment reached the lowest level among all EU Member States.

The implementation of a human-centred policy to enhance professional skills will continue, and within this framework, the National and European Skills Competitions will play an

increasingly important role in ensuring that Cyprus’ human capital remains at the heart of the country’s positive labour market trajectory.
