Undergraduates

Undergraduate students are those students currently enrolled in any of the four-year programs.

Undergraduate students can borrow 4 books at a time for 10 days with a fine of 30c per day for late returns.
Books have to be returned or renewed according to need.
All currently registered students receive borrowing privileges once they present a valid University of Nicosia/Intercollege student ID card or a current registration form at the Circulation Desk.

Always bring your University of Nicosia/Intercollege Registration Form the first time you come to the library at the beginning of each semester in order to renew your record.

Student's borrowing privileges are suspended at the end of each semester and renewed at the beginning of the following semester. If you need to extend your privileges for a specific reason such as finishing a project or an incomplete course, you must obtain special permission from your lecturer and fill in an Extension of Library Loaning Form.

Borrowing

You must have your University of Nicosia/Intercollege Library card or your Student ID Card at all times. Students must bring their Registration Form the first time they come to the library at the beginning of each semester.

Use the Library catalog UniCAT, to search for books in the different Library Collections. The catalog can be accessed either:
Through terminals in the Library dedicated for that purpose
Through our webpage from any campus-networked computer
     Off-Campus through our webpage

For guidelines as to how you can find and use books in our catalog check How to ...start my research or How to Use UniCAT (in Greek or English).

Once you have found the items that you need to borrow, check them out at the Circulation Desk using your student ID card or Library card. Go to Borrowing Policy for further details.

When materials are checked out, a due date is stamped at the back that indicates the length of the loan period. It is your responsibility to remember the dates for materials to be returned/renewed.

Borrowing privileges expire at the end of every semester for the following categories:
Undergraduate Students
Graduate Students
Part-time Faculty
Professional Students
Distance Learning Students
Off-Campus Part-time Faculty
Off-Campus Students

For External Users, borrowing privileges start on the day that they register and expire after 6 months or a year depending on the duration of their registration.
For Alumni, borrowing privileges expire one year after the day that they register.
For Researchers, borrowing privileges expire every three months or depending on the specific case.

All privileges are renewed automatically if the user continues to be a member of the University of Nicosia/Intercollege community or otherwise member of the Library.

Books can be renewed up to three times either online or at the Library. No renewal is done over the phone.

Holds & Recalls

There may be times when a book you want is not in the library and the catalog shows that the item is loaned out to another user. Once you search for the item on UniCAT, our on-line library catalog, and you find it, make a note of the Call Number  and ask the Librarian at the Circulation Desk to put a hold on it or recall it if necessary. If an item is recalled, the current borrower is notified by phone or e-mail that the book has been recalled and a new due date is specified for the book to be returned (usually within two days) regardless of the date originally stamped at the back slip of the book. Only urgently needed books will be recalled.

You should normally expect to collect recalled books within three days of placing the hold, provided that the borrower responds promptly to the recall notice. Items awaiting collection will be kept at the relevant shelf in the Library for three days only after they are returned by the previous borrower. After that, they will be either returned to the first borrower, if the borrower still needs the book, or they will be returned to the collection. If the current borrower fails to return a recalled book by the new return date given, it will be considered overdue and a fine of 1.70€ per item per day will be charged for not responding to the recall. The borrower's borrowing privileges will also be blocked (Loss of Privileges/Fines).

Loss of Privileges / Fines

In the case where you do not return your loans by the due date, you will receive a letter, e-mail or phone call reminding you that your items are overdue. This reminder is a courtesy service and the library cannot be held responsible for non-receipt by post or e-mail service. Fines will not exceed the amount of 50€.

Fines for items returned late are, per item:

Standard Loan Books    30c per day

80c per day for External Users, Alumni, Off-Campus Faculty and Off-Campus Students

Reserve Books    70c per hour, 5€ per day or 45€ per day during exam period

Recalled Items 1.70€ per day
Lost/Damaged Items Cost of item plus a processing fee of 17€

Cost of book plus a processing fee of 17€ will be charged for lost, damaged or defaced books. Borrowers who have not returned their books or have not paid their fines will lose their borrowing privileges, will not be allowed to register for classes, will not be given their grades or awarded their diploma.

In order to avoid fines and/or loss of privileges:
Make sure you check the status of the items that you borrowed on our on-line catalog on a regular basis. For that
you can click on My Library Card.
Return/renew your loans on or before the due date stamped on the date slip at the back of your book.
Make sure that you make a note of the due date on the book slip if you are renewing items online.
Avoid giving your ID card to friends and avoid giving the books that you borrowed to others to use or to return since you
will be responsible for any fines, loss or damage that may occur.
Report the loss of your card, or any change of address, phone number or e-mail address to the Circulation Desk as soon
        as possible.

Extension of Privileges

In the case where you need to borrow materials beyond the period that you are allowed, either due to an incomplete course or an unfinished project, you can ask for special permission from you lecturer and fill in an Extension of Library Loaning Form signed by your lecturer. This form should be presented at the Circulation Desk.
